Abstract

Oil and gas industry is developing through the years, either exploration or exploitation activity of oil and gas. Along with its development, supplementary facilities are needed to support the production of oil and gas activity. The supplementary facilities mentioned can be offshore structures or pipeline system. To support its work, offshore structures or pipeline system which are installed underwater need to be protected from the deep underwater environment. It is done to add the operational age and also to prevent corrosion occurance. One way to protect underwater pipeline is the use of coating as a protection. A lot of material have been developed as a coating agent. One of them is polyurethane. Polyurethane is a polymer as a result of reaction beetween isocyanate with high degree alcohol called polyol. In this research, done the analysis of polyurethane as a coating agent on ASTM A36 steel. Then, several tests are done toward the coated steel. On pull-off adhesion test, adhesion which satisfies the top coat requirement is reached. Then on the fire retardancy test, coating only experience a slight discoloration. From the corrosion rate test, it is known that coating could protect the specimen from corrosion as much as 24,36% in NaCl and 45,66% in FeCl3. This can also be observed from the morphology test result that has been done toward the specimen.
