Abstract

Kajian geokimia batubara Cekungan Ombilin dari masa Eocene menunjukkan tingkat kematangan rendah hingga medium. Dua sampel batubara Cekungan Ombilin yang diteliti pada penelitian ini berasal dari tambang batubara Sawahlunto, Sumatra Barat. Ekstrak batubara difraksinasi dengan kromatografi kolom dan diidentifikasi biomarka dengan kromatografi gas-spektrometri massa. Hasil identifikasi fraksi aromatik dua sampel batubara Sawahlunto menunjukkan distribusi kelompok senyawa naftalena dengan kerangka sesquiterpenoid, kelompok senyawa fenantrena dengan kerangka diterpenoid, dan kelompok senyawa triterpenoid pentasiklik aromatik. Keberadaan senyawa dengan kerangka sesquiterpenoid dan triterpenoid mengindikasikan materi organik berasal dari prekursor α-/β-amirin dalam tumbuhan Angiospermae dan masukan dari bakteri. Selain itu, tumbuhan Gymnospermae juga memberikan sedikit masukan pada tersedianya material organik yang ditunjukkan oleh kelimpahan kelompok senyawa diterpenoid. Distribusi keberadaan biomarka dalam kedua sampel batubara Sawahlunto mengindikasikan bahwa kedua sampel telah menuju kearah kematangan termal. Berdasarkan nilai analisis kalori kedua sampel batubara Sawahlunto tergolong dalam sub-bituminous.

Coal’s geochemical studies of The Ombilin Basin from Eocene shows low to medium maturity level. Two samples of the Ombilin Basin’s coal which studied in this research was from Sawahlunto coal mining, West Sumatra. Coal’s extract was fractionated using column chromatography and was identified the distribution of biomarker compound using simultaneous analysis of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Aromatic fraction identification of two Sawahlunto coal samples shows the distribution of naphthalene derivatives with sesquiterpenoid skeleton, phenanthrene derivatives with diterpenoid skeleton, and pentacyclic triterpenoids aromatic. Presence of sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid compounds indicate the organic matter derived from α-/β-amyrin in Angiospermae higher plants and input of bacteria. In addition, Gymnospermae higher plants gave low concentration to the preserved organic matter which showed by abundance of diterpenoid. Distribution of biomarker compounds of two Sawahlunto coal samples indicates that two samples towards thermal maturity. Two Sawahlunto coal samples were classified as sub-bituminous coal based on the value of caloric analysis.
