Abstract
Baja bekas seringkali digunakan untuk membuat berbagai macam produk. Kualitas dari suatu produk dengan bahan baja tergantung pada proses perlakuan panas yang dilakukan dengan tujuan merubah sifat mekanis dari baja tersebut, perlakuan panas ini dilakukan pada baja pegas daun bekas yang biasa digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan pisau dapur.
Penelitian ini diawali dengan pemanasan spesimen pada temperatur austenisasi 850°C dengan waktu penahanan 60 menit, kemudian dilakukan proses quenching dengan media pendingin oli. Setelah itu, dilanjutkan proses tempering pada temperatur 230°C dengan perbedaan waktu penahanan 50 menit, 70 menit dan 90 menit kemudian didinginkan dengan media udara. Setelah proses perlakuan panas selesai selanjutnya dilakukan proses pengujian, uji kekerasan dan uji impak.
Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil bahwa dengan semakin lamanya waktu penahanan (holding time) proses tempering, maka kekerasan spesimen semakin turun, yaitu 46,3 HRC, 45,7 HRC, 45,2 HRC, sedangkan nilai kekuatan impak spesimen menjadi semakin meningkat, yaitu 0,00654 Kgm/mm2, 0,00783 Kgm/mm2, 0,0088 Kgm/mm2.

Steel is often used to make various products. The quality of a product with a steel material depends on the heat treatment process being carried out. The process of heat treatment is a heating process performed on the metal with the aim of changing the mechanical properties of the steel, the heat treatment applied on leaf springs steel used as a raw material for making kitchen knives.
This research was started by heating the specimen at 850°C austenisation temperature with holding time of 60 minutes, then quenching process with oil cooling medium. After that, the tempering process continued 230°C temperature. with 50 minutes, 70 minutes and 90 minutes holding time then cooled with air medium. After the heat treatment process is done further testing process, hardness test and impact test.
From this research, obtained the result that with the longer holding time of tempering process, the specimen hardness decreases, that is 46,3 HRC, 45,7 HRC, 45,2 HRC, while specimen impact strength value become increasing, that is 0,00654 Kgm / mm2, 0,00783 Kgm / mm2, 0.0088 Kgm / mm2.
