Abstract

FFA content in Palm Oil Mill Effluent has been decreased through esterification reaction. FFA content decrease with conversion 47.72% from 34.85% under condition FFA : methanol 1:15 at 60°C in 1 hour and 5% catalyst. The catalyst which is used in the reaction is Hydrothermal Carbon Sulfonate (HCS). This catalyst was produced from “nasi aking”. Based on X-ray diffractogram, HCS has amourphous structure. Based on Infrared Spectrum, HCS has –SO3H and –COOH functional group as acid group. Acid quantity of HCS is 0.84 mmol/g and surface area of HCS is 67.40 m2/g.
