Abstract

Pada penelitian ini telah dilakukan studi eksperimental untuk mengetahui pengaruh jumlah foil terhadap daya mekanik dan efisiensi Turbin Heliks Cascade Foil. Data yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini ialah kecepatan sudut dan torsi dari 3 variasi jumlah foil (Turbin Heliks 3 foil, 6 foil, dan 9 foil) pada 3 variasi kecepatan arus (1,142 m/s, 1,228 m/s, dan 1,341 m/s). Variasi kecepatan arus didapatkan dari saluran keluaran mata air Umbulan, Kabupaten Pasuruan, Jawa Timur. Penambahan foil secara cascade dapat meningkatkan daya mekanik turbin dalam luas sapuan yang sama. Pada kecepatan arus 1,341 m/s, Turbin Heliks 3, 6, dan 9 foil menghasilkan daya mekanik secara berturut-turut sebesar 104 watt, 116,8 watt, dan 133,6 watt. Turbin Heliks 9 foil memiliki daya mekanik dan torsi tertinggi karena memiliki momen inersia lebih tinggi daripada Turbin Heliks 6 dan 3 foil. Selain itu, penambahan jumlah foil menyebabkan bertambahnya gaya lift yang bekerja pada turbin. Turbin Heliks 9 foil memiliki lebih banyak foil, sehingga memberikan gaya lift lebih besar dibandingkan dengan Turbin Heliks 6 dan 3 foil. Penambahan foil secara cascade juga dapat meningkatkan efisiensi Turbin Heliks. Pada kecepatan arus 1,142 m/s, Turbin Heliks 3, 6, dan 9 foil menghasilkan efisiensi secara berturutturut sebesar 15,2 %, 17,6 %, dan 19,9 %. Penambahan foil secara cascade dapat meningkatkan ekstraksi energi arus air tanpa memperbesar dimensi turbin. ========================================================================== This experimental study has been conducted on influence of the number of foils to the efficiency and mechanical power of Cascade Foil Helical Turbine. The data in this study obtained the angular velocity and torque of the number of foil (Helical 3 foil, 6 foil, and 9 foil Turbine) at 3 variations of flow velocity (1.142 m/s, 1.228 m/s, and 1.341 m/s). Variation of flow velocity obtained from output channels of Umbulan springs, Pasuruan, East Java. The addition of the cascade foil can improve mechanical power of turbine in the same swept area. At the flow velocity of 1.341 m/s, Helical 3, 6, and 9 foil Turbine produces mechanical power respectively, 104 watts, 116.8 watt, and 133.6 watts. Helical 9 foil Turbine has higher mechanical power and torque, because it has a higher inertia moment than the Helical 6 and 3 foil turbine. Moreover, the addition of the foil causes increased lift force acting on the turbine. Helical 9 foil Turbine has more foil, thus it providing the greater lift force than Helical 6 and 3 foil Turbine. The additions of cascade foil can also improve the efficiency of Helical Turbine. At the flow velocity of 1,142 m/s, the efficiency of Helical 3, 6, and 9 foil Turbine respectively 15.2%, 17.6% and 19.9%. The addition of the cascade foil can increase water flow energy extraction without increasing the dimensions of the turbine.
