Abstract

Korosi didefinisikan sebagai hasil kerusakan dari reaksi kimia antara logam dengan lingkungannya. Penggunaan inhibitor merupakan salah satu cara menghambat laju korosi. Ekstrak daun jambu biji dan tapioka merupakan bahan organik yang dapat digunakan sebagai inhibitor. Untuk mengetahui kinerja inhibitor, dilakukan pengujian weight loss yang menunjukkan persen inhibisi tertinggi untuk pH 4 adalah 50,54% pada konsentrasi 1035 ppm dan waktu perendaman 2 minggu. Sedangkan untuk pH 7, persen inibisi tertinggi adalah 79,32% pada konsentrasi 2035 ppm dan waktu perendaman 1 minggu. Untuk mengetahui mekanisme inhibisi, dilakukan pengujian tafel, EIS, FTIR, dan perhitungan isoterm adsorpsi. Hasil uji tafel dan EIS menunjukkan bahwa inhibitor membutuhkan waktu yang cukup lama untuk menghambat laju korosi baja API 5 L grade B pada pH 4. Sedangkan pada pH 7, hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa inhibitor bekerja dengan cara mengganggu reaksi anodik dan katodik, sehingga inhibitor termasuk jenis inhibitor campuran yang melibatkan reaksi adsorpsi. Uji FTIR membuktikan bahwa terjadi adsorpsi antara inhibitor dengan permukaan sampel, yang merupakan jenis fisisorpsi.

Corrosion is the destruction process of materials because of the reaction with the environment. Inhibitor is one of methods to decrease the corrosion rate. Psidium guajava L. leaf extract and tapioca are natural products that can be used as corrosion inhibitor. To determine the efficiency of this mixed inhibitor, the weight loss test was done. The highest inhibition efficiency in solution with pH 4 is 50.54% with addition of 1035 ppm inhibitor and 2 weeks immersion time. Besides, the highest efficiency in solution with pH 7 is 79.32% with addition of 2035 ppm inhibitor and 1 week immersion time. Furthermore, the inhibition mechanism was studied from the result of Tafel, EIS, FTIR, and adsorption isotherm calculation. The result of tafel and EIS test showed that the inhibitor needs longer time of immersion to decrease the corrosion rate of API 5L grade B steel in solution with pH 4. However, in solution with pH 7, the result of the test showed that the inhibitor acts as mixed-type corrosion inhibitor which disturbs both of anodic and cathodic reaction. The adsorption process was involved which was also confirmed by the result of FTIR test. Adsorption isotherm calculation showed that the adsorption occured was physisorption.
