Abstract
Salah satu penyebab terjadinya kegagalan pada Lead-acid battery adalah internal short circuit. Berdasarkan data komplain kerusakan aki di PT. Indobatt Industri Permai, short circuit sering terjadi pada aki sepeda motor ITZ5S Volcano.
Penelitian ini diawali dengan diskusi bersama pihak PT. Indobatt Industri Permai. Selanjutnya dilakukan pembebanan pada aki yang dikomplain oleh konsumen untuk mengetahui sel mana yang terjadi short circuit. Kemudian dilakukan analisis menggunakan metode RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis) untuk mencari beberapa kemungkinan penyebabnya. Data pendukung berupa aki ITZ5S Volcano, foto kerusakan, data komplain dari konsumen.
Dari hasil penelitian yang dilakukan didapatkan bahwa ada dua jenis penyebab terjadinya short circuit, yaitu karena adanya pertumbuhan dendrit akibat pemakaian dan karena adanya kesalahan perakitan. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, didapatkan beberapa solusi, antara lain dengan penambahan ekspander, dengan melakukan re-design AGM yaitu menambahkan ketebalan dari AGM tersebut. Serta dilakukan perbaikan proses perakitan sehingga cacat produksi tidak terjadi.

One of the causes of failure at Lead-acid battery is internal short circuit. Based on data complaints of battery damage in PT. Indobatt Industri Permai, short circuit often occurs on motorcycle battery ITZ5S Volcano.
This research begins with a discussion with the PT. Indobatt Industri Permai. Furthermore, charging on the battery that complaint by consumers to find out which cells occur short circuit. Then performed an analysis using RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis) method to find some possible causes. Supporting data in the form of ITZ5S Volcano battery, photo damage, data complaints from consumers.
From the results of research conducted found that there are two types of causes of the occurrence of short circuit, which is due to the growth of dendrites due to usage and because of assembly errors. To overcome this problem, we get some solutions, such as adding an expander, by re-design AGM that is adding thickness from AGM. As well as improving the assembly process so that production defects do not occur.
