Abstract

Aluminium merupakan material yang banyak digunakan dalam aplikasi dirgantara dan satelit. Salah satu jenis yang digunakan dalam aplikasi ini adalah aluminium paduan Cu seri 2024. Untuk aplikasi pada satelit, diperlukan peningkatan sifat mekanik, salah satunya adalah kekerasan. Metode Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) digunakan untuk merekayasa permukaan aluminium agar terbentuk lapisan alumina (Al2O3). Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisa pengaruh dari variasi komposisi larutan elektrolit Na2SiO3 terhadap morfologi dan sifat kekerasan lapisan Al2O3 pada aluminium Al 2024. Pengamatan secara visual saat proses didapat hasil penambahan konsentrasi Na2SiO3 pada elektrolit menghasilkan intensitas micro discharge plasma yang semakin tinggi dan merata pada awal proses. Hasil karakterisasi SEM/EDX dari spesimen PEO menunjukkan morfologi dengan jumlah micropores yang tinggi. Dari analisa XRD didapat kandungan senyawa γ-Al2O3 dan mullite (Al6Si2O13). Peningkatan konsentrasi Na2SiO3 menghasilkan ukuran micropores yang semakin besar. Berdasarkan pengujian micro hardness vickers didapatkan proses PEO memberikan nilai kekerasan permukaan untuk setiap spesimen 0,025M, 0,030M, 0,035M, dan 0,040M masing-masing senilai 314,1HV, 499,67HV, 670,86HV, dan 531,10HV.

Aluminium is a material widely used in aerospace and satellites application. One of the types that used in this application is aluminium copper (Cu) alloy, 2024. For satellites application, it needs an increase in mechanical properties, one of them is hardness property. Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) method is used to fabricate alumina ceramic oxide layer (Al2O3) on aluminium surface. This experiment is used to analyze the effect of Na2SiO3 electrolyte solution composition variation to morphology and hardness property of Al2O3 coating on 2024 aluminium alloy. Visual observations during the process indicate the addition of Na2SiO3 concentration in electrolytes gave the higher intensity of plasma discharge at the beginning of the process. The SEM / EDX characterization on PEO specimens showed the morphology with many micropores. From XRD analysis, the compounds contained in the PEO specimen are γ-Al2O3 and mullite (Al6Si2O13). The increasing concentration of Na2SiO3, resulting in larger pore size. Based on micro hardness vickers testing showed PEO process gave surface hardness value for each specimen 0,025, 0,030, 0,035, and 0,040M are 314,10, 499,67, 670,86, and 531,10HV respectively
