Abstract

Operation of electric power system becomes an important thing to note in order to meet the need for increasing electrical energy. Optimal power flow can be used to find the optimal solution of electric power system operation taking into account power flow and system constraints. However, conventional OPF can not be used for calculations with dynamic load and also does not consider the constraints of system security when contingency occurs. Security Constrained Optimal Power Flow (SCOPF) is a development of OPF taking into account system security and ramprate constraint. In this study calculation of alternating current SCOPF is done by sequential quadratic programming method. Based on the simulation results, it is proven that sequential quadratic programming method is able to solve AC-SCOPF problems without violating the ramprate constraint, branch capacity during contingency, and other constraints. Total generating costs with contingency considerations result in slightly more expensive costs to 5%, due to generated adjustments to ensure re-dispatch to avoid violating the ramp rate constraint between normal with contingency conditions and branch capacity constraints. By using dynamic line rating based on changing weather conditions, the total cost of generation is cheaper especially with calculations that take into account system security constraint.
