Abstract
Penyerapan nitrogen dari pupuk urea oleh tanaman memiliki efisiensi yang rendah. Hal ini disebabkan oleh sifat urea yang mudah terlarut oleh air. Metode yang dapat digunakan untuk menghambat terlarutnya urea dalam air yaitu dengan cara membuat slow release fertilizer (SRF). Sulfur coating urea (SCU) merupakan salah satu jenis SRF. Sulfur sebagai bahan pelapis memiliki sifat tidak larut dalam air dan dibutuhkan oleh tanaman sebagai macronutrient. Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk membuat pupuk urea lepas lambat berlapis sulfur. Proses pelapisan pupuk urea dilakukan dengan menggunakan spouted bed. Spouted bed adalah sebuah kaca berbentuk cone-cylinder berdiameter 15 cm dan tinggi 50 cm. Bagian kerucut memiliki diameter 5 cm dan kemiringan sebesar 60o. Sebanyak 1000 gram urea diumpankan ke dalam spouted bed. Kondisi operasi yang digunakan yaitu suhu bed 50, 60, 70, 80oC dengan waktu pelapisan 5, 10, 15, 20 menit. Rate udara minimum fluidisasi yang dibutuhkan sebesar 0.4221 m/s. Kontak antara urea dan sulfur terjadi secara counter-current. Pembuatan SCU berhasil dilakukan dengan hasil laju urea terlarut yang lebih rendah daripada urea murni. Laju SCU terlarut paling rendah dihasilkan pada waktu pelapisan 15 menit dan suhu bed 50oC. SCU memiliki difusivitas yang lebih rendah dibanding urea murni. Difusivitas SCU sebesar 1.6534 x 10-7 m2/s dan difusivitas urea sebesar 2.5337 x 10-7 m2/s. ======================================================================================================
Nitrogen absorption from urea fertilizer by plant has low efficiency. This is due to characteristic of urea that ease to soluble by water. Method which can used to inhibit urea dissolve in water is by making slow release fertilizer. Sulfur Coating Urea (SCU) is one method of SRF. Sulfur as a coating material has advantages which are insoluble in water and required by plants as a macronutrient. This study is conducted to producing sulfur coated slow release urea fertilizer. The coating process is carried out in the spouted bed. The spouted bed is a cone-cylindrical glass with 15 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height. The cone section is having 5 cm in diameter with a slope of 60o. As much as 1000 grams of urea is fed into the spouted bed. Operating condition used are bed temperature of 50, 60, 70, 80oC with coating time of 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes. The minimum required of rate fluidization is 0.4221 m/s. Sulfur is contacted in counter-current flow with urea. SCU which has been successfully created has lower dissolved rate than pure urea. The minimum dissolved rate of urea obtained at coating time of 15 minutes and bed temperature of 50oC. SCU has lower diffusivity than pure urea. SCU diffusivity of 1.6534 x 10-7 m2/s and urea diffusivity of 2.5337 x 10-7 m2/s.
