Abstract

The zonal distribution system is currently developed by the military and applied to combat ships. In general, the system has three basic ideas: the use of two main bus bars (bus port and starboard bus), load zoning, and power distribution configuration. With those modes, power securities, survivability, and reliability of power distribution can be significantly improved. In this thesis we provide a different perspective in the application of the zonal distribution system to replace the existing distribution system i.e. the segregated distribution system on non-military vessels. The objective to be achieved is to find the comparison of zonal and segregated systems in the process of system design, distribution performance, investment cost estimation, and benefits. The study used to test the performance of the distribution is with a power flow analysis. The power flow method used is network topology based. From the application of the power flow, the zonal system is able to distribute the power better with the supply voltage at load at 378 V (99.38%) compared to the 375 V radial (98,68%). The zonal system can reduce the number of cables used so that in total reduce the system investment cost (7%). In the analysis of investment and operational costs, radial and zonal mechanical propulsion systems have almost the same value because they are only distinguished from the difference in investment of 17 million rupiah. While the zonal with electrical propulsion systems can provide more effective savings resulting from the flexibility of the use of power Zonal system will provide more benefits operational cost savings when also apply electrical propulsion system. The savings earned in the 15th year is 12 billion rupiah, and the 25th year is 37 billion rupiah.
