Abstract

The pipe is straight and curved with a sudden enlargement usually used in the industrial field of oil refinery, cement, and power plant industries. It can also be used to model a blood transfusion network that starts from the heart, because blood transport begins with widening the cross-sectional area from small arterial blood vessels into large arterial blood vessels (aorta) and then transferred throughout the body until it returns to the heart.
In the study of fluid flow, through straight and curved pipes with a sudden enlargement have the same problem, secondary flow, separation, and friction loss. Separation occurs due to the inability of flow against back pressure (adverse pressure gradient). While the secondary flow occurs due to the difference in pressure on the inner side and outer wall, the pressure distribution on the outer wall is larger than the inner wall side, this allows the fluid particles to move from the outer wall to the inner wall. Secondary flow also triggers the formation of vortex that can reduce the flow energy as a result of separation loss and the occurrence of blockage effect and reduce the effective flow area as a result of secondary flow in the cross section area. And friction loss is a loss due to friction. Therefore, in this final project will visualize the phenomena above occur in blood vessel by using the program of CFD with variation of D / d = 1,5, 2 and 3 by varied Reynolds number 100,300, and 600.
From the results of numerical studies to obtain results in the form of quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data can be a distribution of speed and reattachment length values. Qualitative data can be the appearance of profile and vector speed, pressure, shear stress (shear stress) in each cross section desired. As the Reynolds number and D / d variations increase, the greater the value of the velocity, the pressure value, the shear stress value on the wall and the reattachment length that occurs. The average pressure value on the channel outlet also shows the greater the D / d and Reynolds number the lower the pressure value. In the medical world high pressure causes hypertension and low pressure to cause hypotension. The large shear stress over time triggers the rapid aging of the blood vessels and slows the flow to the exit of the blood vessels. To speed flow too fast hit the wall of the channel will also cause the rupture of blood vessels and the most fatal thing is a sudden death. Reattachment that is too long also causes disruption of the pattern and slow down the flow in the channel.
