Abstract

Cloves (sygizium aromaticum L.) is a native plant in Indonesia. Distillation of clove obtained clove leaf oil with the main component of 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenol (1). Various attempts have been made to increase the added value of clove leaf by changing 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenol (1) into derivatives such as 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenyl acetate (2) are used as components of fragrance, soap and flavor, as well as solar bioaditif. 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenyl acetate (2) is also an inhibitor of steel corrosion better than 2-methoxy-4- (2-propene-1-yl) phenol (1), and show anti-cancer activity of DU-
145 prostate better than 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenol (1). Further study foubd that esters of 2-methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl)
phenol (1) also show activity as inhibitor of the enzyme 15- lipoxygenase, and informed that the non-polar is a better inhibitor.
Research conducted successfully synthesis three homologous 2- methoxy-4-(2-propene-1-yl) phenyl (2) (two of them are new compounds). Synthesis implemented by reaction of 2-methoxy-4-
(2-propene-1-yl) phenol (1) with acyl halude and 4- dimetilaminopiridina at room temperature. Reaction monitoring
conducted by thin layer chromatography; whereas the identification results of the synthesis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and NMR spectrometer.
