Abstract

Aluminium alloy 2024 merupakan contoh paduan Al-Cu yang memiliki kekuatan yield dan ketahanan terhadap korosi yang baik. Perubahan sifat mekanik dan cacat akibat pengelasan pada daerah weld metal, heat affected zone dan base metal menjadi perhatian utama dalam proses pengelasan. Penelitian secara eksperimen dilakukan pada aluminium paduan 2024 yang telah mengalami precipitation hardening. Metode pengelasan menggunakan Gas Tungsten Arc Welding dengan polaritas AC. Pada kasus perubahan kekerasan akibat perubahan arus, variasi sebesar 120A, 135A, 150A digunakan sebagai parameter. Sedangkan pada kasus perubahan kekerasan pada daerah HAZ akibat perubahan debit gas, variasi sebesar 6 lt/min, 10 lt/min, dan 14 lt/min digunakan sebagai parameter. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan dapat diketahui pada setiap variasi debit gas yang digunakan, kenaikan besar arus pengelasan secara umum menyebabkan kecenderungan terbentuknya retakan pada daerah logam las. Selain itu dapat pula diketahui Perbandingan lebar las (W) dan kedalaman penetrasi (P) yang semakin kecil menyebabkan kecenderungan terbentuknya centerline crack semakin besar. ====================================================================================================== The research in the mechanical properties of aluminium and its alloy increased along with the need for a strong and lightweight material. As material becomes even more sophisticated in their cehemical composition to provide even better fuctionally specific properties, a more complete and precise understanding of how materials can be joined for optimal effectiveness and efficiency will become essential. Aluminum alloy 2024 is one of the exaple of Al-Cu alloy which has a good yield strength and good corrosion resistance. This experimental study conducted on artificially aged 2024 aluminum alloy. The welding on plate (bead on plate) occurs for currents of 120 A; 135A; and 150 A and gas flow rate of 6 lt/min; 10 lt/min; 14 lt/min for 3 mm workpiece thickness. Based on observations can be seen on every variation of the gas flow rate, the increase in welding current generally cause formation of cracks in the weld metal region. Moreover, it can also be known smaller the Comparison value of weld width (W) and depth of penetration (P) can caused of forming the greater the centerline crack.
