Abstract

Preparasi dan karakterisasi karet silikon (silicone rubber) Polidimetilsiloksan (PDMS) telah berhasil dibuat melalui proses curing/vulkanisasi. Karet silikon dipreparasi dengan penambahan katalis curing (curing catalyst). Proses curing/vulkanisasi/pematangan menggunakan curing catalyst Bluesil 60R/(komersial), katalis Benzoil peroksida,Hidrogen peroksida, Trietilamin dan Etilmetilketon dengan variasi komposisi katalis 2,4, 6, 8 dan 10 wt%. Jenis pengujian meliputi FTIR, uji Tarik, uji Tekan, morfologi dan stabilitas termal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan curing agent (katalis) yang dapat mematangkan hanyalah Bluesil Cataiyst 60R Dioctyle tin Oxide (komersial) dan Benzoil peroksida. FTIR menunjukkan terbentuknya ikatan crosslink pada struktur PDMS dengan terbentuknya ikatan CH2-CH2. Hasil uji Tarik menunjukkan semakin bertambahnya komposisi katalis hingga 6% kekuatan Tarik meningkat dan menurun saat komposisi lebih dari 6%. Kekuatan tekan dari karet silikon menunjukkan semakin meningkatnya komposisi maka kekuatan tekannya semakin besar. Morfologi dari karet silikon menunjukkan bentuk polyghonal pores (not connected pores). Stabilitas termal dari karet silikon baik dengan penambahan katalis maupun tanpa penambahan katalis menunjukkan tidak terlalu signifikan perbedaan stabilitas termal dari karet silikon. ========== Preparation and characterization of silicon rubber – polydmethylsiloxane (PDMS) had been succesfully made through curing or vulcanization process. Silicon rubber was prepared by adding curing catalyst. The curing vulcanization/maturation) process was conducted by adding Bluesil 60R curing catalyst (commercial), Benzoyl peroxide catalyst, Hydrogen peroxide, Tri-ethyl-amine and Methyl Ethyl Ketone, each varying at 2,4, 6, 8 and 10 wt%. The tests being conducted were including FTIR, tensile test, compression test, morphology testing and thermal stability testing. The results of this research indicated that the curing agent (catalyst) which could maturated the PDMS were only Bluesil Cataiyst 60R Dioctyle tin Oxide (commercial) and Benzoyl peroxide. FTIR showed that the forming of crosslink bonding on PDMS structure was composed by CH2-CH2 bond forming. Tensile tests results pointed that the increase in catalyst composition up to 6% would increase the tensile strength and decrease it when the composition was above 6%. Compression strength of the silicon rubber indicated that the increase in composition would also increase its compression. The morphology of silicon rubber obtained in this research, showed that the it was polygonal pores shaped(not connected pores). The thermal stability of silicone rubber with the addition of catalysts and without addition of catalysts showed not significant differences in thermal stability of silicone rubber.
