Abstract
============ Aluminum is often used for hull vessels, bodies of aircraft, rail roads because aluminum alloys have light properties, good corrosion resistance, and good ductility. The purpose of this research is to know and get the effect of electrode to tensile strength, hardness, observation of macro-micro structure, and prediction of corrosion rate in welding of Aluminum series 5083 with 6061. Electrode variations used are ER 5356, mixed ER 5356-ER 5556, and ER 5556. Tensile strength test results show that welded specimen with ER 5556 electrode yields the highest yield and ultimate strength of 196.68 MPa and 203.46 MPa. In the hardness test of welded specimen with ER 5556 electrode resulted in hardness value on base metal (1), haz (2), weld metal (3), haz (4), and base metal (5) consecutively 75.58 HVN, 79.59 HVN, 78.04 HVN, 73.59 HVN, and 69.33 HVN. The result of macro structure observation has relatively similar length of haz area. While the microstructure shows that welded specimen using ER 5556 electrode produces more dense dendrites and more Mg2Si phase which can increase tensile strength and hardness. The result of prediction of corrosion rate with three cell electrode method shows welded specimen with ER 5556 electrode has the least corrosion rate of 0.011 mmpy.
