Abstract

The Utilization of Kali Surabaya River as water resources for dringking water is constrained by pollution from domestic and industrial waste and agricultural activities around the river banks. The result of river water quality analysis indicated that it was exceed the water quality standard of first class, so the river is polluted. Therefore, an effort is needed to maintain the quality of river water in accordance with its requirements.
This study aims to calculate the pollution load capacity using the QUAL2Kw model and determine the maximum BOD concentration that can be discharged into the river by a dynamic program. Study area starts from Cangkir to Sepanjang which is divided into three segments. Water quality parameters analyzed were pH, temperature, DO, BOD, and COD. The required data include primary data by sampling at certain point which is considered to represent the condition of pollutant source. Secondary data include climatology, population, river hydraulic, discharge and quality of pollution obtained from related institution.
The result indicated that the pollutant load exceeds its capacity. Based on the simulation result, the value of pollutant load in each segment for BOD is 12.416 kg/day, 23.180 kg/day, and 17.759 kg/day. While the pollution load capacity (DTBP) in each segment is 1,681 kg / day, 1,138 kg / day, and 1,398 kg / day. Optimization was performed to determine the maximum BOD value of wastewater that was allowed into the river that is 194,74 mg/L in segment one, 197,65 mg/L in segment 2 and 193,71 mg/L in segment three.
