Abstract

Single Point Anchor Reservoir (SPAR) is a floating offshore platform with
production drilling capability, and production with wide depth coverage. SPAR has
an advantage in stability because it has a point of gravity under the buoyancy point.
Helical Strakes are used on SPAR to reduce the effects of Vortex-Induced Vibration
(VIV) due to currents around the structure. The effects of Helical Strakes on
movement and voltage dynamics on the SPAR link mooring system will be analyzed
with numerical and experimental. Movements reviewed in this final project are
surge, heave and pitch. In addition to the condition of tethered variations will be
done fairlead height relative to the draft is 0.1T above the water surface, 0T on the
water surface and -0.1T below the water surface. The experiment was conducted
using Classic SPAR model equipped with Helical Strakes with scale 1: 125. The
mooring system used is a link with four mooring ropes. The wave used in this
experiment is a regular wave. After analysis of the numerical and experimental
results obtained in free-floating conditions, Helical Strakes can reduce the
maximum value of the heave mode by 68% and the pitch by 19%, but the value of
the surge mode is higher at 5%.
