Abstract

Seiring dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan produk hasil proses elektroplating mendorong berkembangnya industri elektroplating di Indonesia. Namun demi menjaga kelestarian lingkungan tentu diperlukan juga perkembangan teknologi pengolahan limbah industri tersebut. Adsorben dari kopolimer NIPAM-co-DMAAPS gel yang terdiri dari monomer N-isopropilacrylamide (NIPAM) dan N,N-dimethy(acrylamidopropyl)ammoniumpropane sulfonate (DMAAPS) dapat digunakan sebagai inovasi penanganan pencemaran logam berat tersebut. DMAAPS bersifat zwitterionic dan thermosensitive. Zwitterion memiliki dua muatan sekaligus yang dapat menyerap kation maupun anion secara simultan. Sedangkan NIPAM bersifat thermosensitive digunakan sebagai spacer untuk menghindari ikatan interchain, intrachain dan intragroup antar ion bermuatan pada homopolimer zwitterion poly( DMAAPS). Pada penelitian ini, karakterisasi properti kopolimer seperti gugus fungsional, struktur molekul, sifat hidrofob atau hidrofil kopolimer , property termal , viskositas, dan sifat fasa transisi thermosensitive UCST dan LCST kopolimer [NIPAM-co-DMAAPS] dan kemampuan adsorpsi gelnya dievaluasi dengan variasi konsentrasi monomer NIPAM:DMAAPS 100:0, 95:5, 90:10, 85:15 dan 80:20 dalam media larutan Cr(NO3)3 sebagai sumber ion Cr3+ yang dominan terdapat dalam limbah elektroplating. Kopolimer NIPAM-co-DMAAPS disintesa melalui reaksi polimerisasi radikal bebas dengan N,N,N’,N’-tetramethylenediamine (TEMED) sebagai akselerator, Ammonium peroxodisulfate (APS) sebagai inisiator. Sedangkan untuk kopolimer gel ditambahkan cross-linker berupa N,N’-Methyl-enebisacrylamide (MBAA). Spektra IR menunjukkan bahwa proses polimerisasi yang dilakukan berhasil, dan penyerapan ion logam berat terbesar terjadi pada kopolimer dengan perbandingan NIPAM:DMAAPS 80:20.

Along with the development of electroplating process results encourage the development of electroplating industry in Indonesia. However, in order to maintain environmental health is also needed industrial waste processing technology. Adsorbent of NIPAM-co-DMAAPS gel copolymers containing of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) and N, N-dimethy(acrylamidopropyl)ammoniumpropane sulfonate (DMAAPS) monomers can be used as an innovative treatment of heavy metal pollution. DMAAPS is zwitterionic and thermosensitive. Zwitterion has two charges at once which can absorb cations or anions simultaneously. While NIPAM is thermosensitive as a spacer to avoid inter-chain, intrachain and intragroup bonds between charged ions on zwitterion poly homopolymers (DMAAPS). In this study, characterization of copolymer properties such as functional groups, molecular structures, hydrophobic or hydrophilic properties of copolymers, thermal properties, viscosities, and UCST/LCST transitional thermosensitive phase properties of copolymers [NIPAM-co-DMAAPS] and gel adsorption capacity were evaluated by monomer concentrations NIPAM: DMAAPS 100: 0, 95: 5, 90:10, 85:15 and 80:20 in Cr (NO3)3 solution medium as Cr3+ containing ions which can be found in electroplating water. The NIPAM-co-DMAAPS copolymer is synthesized by free radical polymerization reaction with N, N, N ', N'-tetramethylenediamine (TEMED) as an accelerator, Ammonium peroxodisulfate (APS) as the initiator. As for the gel copolymer added cross-linker in the form of N, N'-Methyl-enebisacrylamide (MBAA). The IR spectra showed that the process performed was successful, and maintaining heavy metal ions occurred on the copolymer by selecting NIPAM: DMAAPS 80:20.
