Abstract

The activities of the ship-cutting and the rapid socioeconomic development affected the coastal area of Kamal. These activities contributed to the pollution of heavy metals such as Cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu) and Zinc (Zn) that significantly impact on the health of coastal ecosystems. This research aims to model the spread of heavy metals Cd, Cu, and Zn in the coastal waters of Kamal ship-cutting. Based on the two-dimensional hydrodynamics model, distribution of heavy metals Cd, Cu, and Zn are modelled. The tide used for accuracy in calculation of hydrodynamics model with a mean average percentile error (MAPE) of 12%. Calibration and verification of models based on previous research during the period 1 – 28 February 2016. The speed of the current in the Madura Strait range from 0.1 cm/s – 20 cm/s, with the direction of the highest tide moves from North to South-East direction to and at the time the lowest low tide moving towards the Southeast and northward. The spreading of heavy metals' cadmium (Cd) is 7 km to the East that pollute the sea up to 1.5 km, heavy metals lead (Cu) is 8 km to the East that pollute the sea up to 2 km, and heavy metals zinc (Zn) is 8 km to the East that pollute the sea and 4 km, from the activities of the ship-cutting. In general, the results of model in accordance with previous studies, but further measurements should need to be done to verify the predictability of simulation. In addition, the Delft 3D-models used in evaluating the deployment of heavy metals in bodies of water.
