Abstract

The objective of this research is to utilize DEC as additive to increase gasoline combustion performance and light naphtha vapor pressure decreasing agent. Vapor pressure measurement experiment from binary mixture light naphtha + DEC was done by using ebulliometer which is developed by Oktavian, et al (2013) which has been validated by Wibawa et al (2015). While combustion performance test was done by using Honda CB150-R engine with variation of speed and composition and then using gas analyzer to analyze the composition of emitted gas. Ebulliometer apparatus was validated by comparing vapor pressure experiment data of ethanol, acetone dan DEC with calculation data from literature. Data from the experiment are validated by using vapor pressure properties of pure DEC, DMC and Ethanol by using ebulliometer. Vapor pressure data gathered by isothermal measurement vapor pressure measurement. Variables in this experiment consist of light naphtha and DEC for various composition and temperature. For combustion experiment, experiment data is gathered by combusting variables consist of various composition of Pertamax, DEC, and other comparative additives (DMC, ethanol) and variation of engine speed (RPM). Based on experimental data, mixture of Light Naphtha + DEC 26%vol give the most effective result based on the value of vapor pressure and RON of the mixture. While for gasoline combustion performance experiment, the most effective results were achieved on the combustion of 10%vol DEC + gasoline composition based on emission levels (CO and HC), fuel consumption and air intake rate for combustion.
