Abstract

Setelah dilakukan pengujian tarik, didapatkan nilai kuat tarik untuk spesimen stainless steel 316 sebesar 579.996 MPa, carbon fiber 3 layer sebesar 433.333 MPa, carbon fiber 5 layer sebesar 508.176 MPa, carbon fiber 7 layer sebesar 588.601 MPa.

======================================================

In general, the propeller shaft has a type of steel material and solid type. This causes the propeller shaft to have a heavy load. The type of material used can be replaced with carbon fiber material. The purpose of this research is to know the strength of carbon fiber material with variation of layer number, then compared with propeller shaft material in general that is stainless steel 316. In this research the variation used for the number of layer of carbon fiber is 3 layer, 5 layer, and 7 layer. To determine the strength of the tensile testing and testing of torsion for carbon fiber and stainless steel specimens 316. After tensile testing, tensile strength values for 316 stainless steel specimens were 579,996 MPa, 3 layer carbon fiber of 433,333 MPa, 5 layer carbon fiber 508.176 MPa, 7 layer carbon fiber of 588,601 MPa. For torsional test results can be known the maximum torque of each specimen. For stainless steel specimens of 29559 Nmm, 311 layers of carbon fiber of 11911 Nmm, carbon fiber 5 layers of 14824 Nmm, carbon fiber 7 layers of 21339 Nmm. From these results it is known that the addition of layers of carbon fiber specimens can increase the tensile strength and torsion of carbon fiber specimens. For the vessels with engine torque of 308 Nm, the shaft made of carbon fiber is categorized safe if it has at least 5 layers.
