Abstract

==========Pinus merkusii is one of pine tree species which majority exist in Indonesia and plays an important role as the mainstay of non-timber forest products that produce products to generate foreign exchange and absorb labor. One of the high value products of forest products and at this time very interested domestic and foreign markets is turpentine products. In 2018, the price of people's pine resin is Rp 3.500 / kg, while the price of turpentine is Rp 40.000 / lt. Turpentine prices are determined by the quantity and quality of the yields of the pine resin processing merkusii. In this innovation will be done several stages, the first stage is the purification stage of raw materials that begin with weighing the pine resin which is then dissolved with turpentine solvent and added oxalic acid and filtered by using filter paper. The next step is the distillation stage where the filtered pine resin is fed into the distillation tank and distillation process is carried out with temperature variables of 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C with 1.5 hours operating time from which this process will produce turpentine oil as the main product and gondorukem as the product side. Turpentine oil will then be purified by adding water to dissolve residual oxalic acid which still passes in the filtration process and is attached to the turpentine during the distillation process. Furthermore, the oil and water mixture will be inserted in a separation funnel to separate water from turpentine oil. From the experimental results, it can be concluded that the effect of distillation temperature on yield, density, refractive index, acid number and residual evaporation depends on the type and quality of raw materials. The results of experiments of oil yield of turpentine variable temperature of 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C were 16,4%, 17% and 17,3% while gondorukem with temperature variable 160°C, 170°C and 180°C were 62.8%, 61.5% and 58.6% respectively. From the test result of turpentine’s density in variable temperature of 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C were 0.851 gr / ml, 0.857 gr / ml and 0.858 gr / ml with an average of 0.855 gr/ml according to the Indonesian National Standard limit of 0.848 - 0.865 gr / ml. From the test results of refractive index of temperature turpentine temperature 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C were 1.476, 1.471 and 1.470 according to the limit of Indonesian National Standard is 1,464 - 1,478. From the test result of the temperature of the turpentine oil temperature variable 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C of 2.7 mg KOH / g, 2.5 mg KOH / g and 2.4 mg KOH / g according to the limits of Turpentine Quality B on Standard National Indonesia that is> 2. From the test results the residual evaporation of turpentine oil temperature variables 160°C, 170°C, and 180°C were 2.8%, 2.7% and 2.2%. according with the limits of Turpentine Quality B on the Indonesian National Standard is> 2.
