Abstract

=========================================================
Geothermal is a source of heat energy contained in hot water, steam, and rocks along with associated minerals and other gases which are genetically inseparable in a geothermal system. Geothermal energy sources are available and formed in the earth's crust. The temperature at the center of the earth is estimated at 5400 ° C. Due to high geothermal temperatures, geothermal energy can be used as a source of energy to generate electrical energy. Currently there are three kinds of geothermal technology that can convert geothermal energy into electrical energy. Namely dry steam, flash steam, and Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) or binary cycle. This technology is applied based on existing steam conditions.
In this study the basis used in the design of the ORC system is the limitation of heating fluid with a temperature of 100 ° C and a cooling fluid with a temperature of 35 ° C. The ORC System is designed using the working fluid of R-141b. From thermodynamic analysis, the system efficiency of 8.122% at evaporator and condenser pressure is 5 bar and 2 bar respectively. Temperature of working fluid out of evaporator and condenser at 95 ° C and 40 ° C respectively. The type of turbine designed for this ORC system is a single-stage curtis turbine using convergent nozzle. After the turbine dimension is obtained, then turbine manufacturing process is done in accordance with the dimensions obtained. Furthermore, the integration of each component into a single ORC system. ORC system that has been made, tested to determine the performance of turbine and condenser for ORC system.
The ORC system used as the base of turbine design using R-141b working fluid has an efficiency of 8.122%. The designed turbine is a type of impulse with 3000 rpm spin using one nozzle with a diameter of 3.798 mm and disc diameter of 286,496 mm with Z = 56 pieces, l = 7.798mm, b = 20mm, s = 0.2mm, R = 10.590mm, r = 4.87mm, and t = 16.064mm. The result of numerical simulation of model 1 blade with value α_1=16°〖 , β〗_1-β_2=3° produces a high power compared to the other blade model. The power produced is 5,267.39 Watt. The condenser experimental results show the external convection coefficient of condenser is higher along with the increase of mass air flow rate with the highest value of 70,763 W / W/m2K at airspeed of 2.2 m/s and the lowest value of 50,668 W/m2K at 1.34 m/s airspeed. The convection coefficient of inner side decreases with decreasing steam quality with an average rating of 3384.87 W/m2K. Condenser performance was analyzed by the method of Number of Transfer Unit and Effectiveness (NTU - ε) where the value of effectiveness increased exponentially to NTU with the highest value of 0.853 and the lowest value of 0.765.
