Abstract
Sistem ballast merupakan salah satu sistem yang sangat penting dalam kapal dimana sistem ballast ini berguna menjaga kestabilan pada kapal khususnya saat melakukan bongkar muatan. Dimana saat- saat itu kapal mengalami kondisi perubahan titik berat yang cukup tinggi akibat dari perpindahan atau pengambilan muatan saat bongkar bongkar, hal ini masih diperparah dengan sistem ballast yang dilakukan secara manual atau masih menggunakan tenaga manusia sebagai pengatur sistem ballast tersebut yang hal ini dapat menyebakan sistem ballast tersebut kurang berfungsi atau mengalami keterlambatan keputusan saat melakukan ballast. Permasalahan ini yang menjadi dasar penulis untuk melakukan peneliti pembuatan prototipe dengan skala laboratorium, dalam perancangan sistem ballast otomatis ini saya menggunakan basis PLC sebagai lingkungan logic control. Dimana dari hasil pengujian menggunakan prototipe ini menghasilkan bahwa waktu respon PLC terhadap input sensor secara keseluruhan skema ballasting, PLC mampu berkerja kurang dari 3,5 detik pada setiap skema yang ada sehingga respon PLC dapat dianggap sangat baik.

Ballast system is one of the most important systems in the ship where the ballast system is used to maintain the stability of the ship, especially when loading and unloading where the moment that the ship experienced a condition of change of gravity is quite high due to the movement or loading of loading during unloading, things this is still exacerbated by the ballast system is done manually or still use human power as a ballast system regulator that this can cause the ballast system is less functional or experiencing delay in the decision when ballast. This problem is the basis of the authors to do research prototype manufacture with a laboratory scale, in designing this automatic ballast system I use the base PLC as a logic control environment. Where from the test result using this prototype resulted that PLC response time to the whole sensor input of ballasting scheme, PLC can work less than 3,5 second at each scheme so that PLC response can be considered very good.
