Abstract

High Ambient Temperature merupakan masalah yang umum pada proses pendinginan cooling tower terkhusus tipe Natural Draft Dry yang menggunakan udara ambien sebagai pendinginnya. Masalah ini dapat diatasi dengan menggunakan spray cooling system yang dipasang pada bagian bawah menara sehingga menciptakan proses pra-pendinginan atau pendinginan udara sebelum masuk ke cooling tower. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mendapat temperature drop pada udara ambien. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan computational fluid dynamic (CFD) dengan Universitas Queenland (UQ) Natural Draft Dry Cooling Tower sebagai objek penelitian. Spray Cooling System menggunakan nosel dipasang secara vertikal pada kaki menara pada ketinggian H = 1 meter, 2 meter, 3 meter, 4 meter, 4,8 meter. Temperature drop yang diperoleh bergantung kepada massflowrate nosel. Massflowrate yang digunakan pada masing-masing nosel secara berurutan adalah 10 g/s; 12,62 g/s; 15,78 g/s; 19,72 g/s; 24,65 g/s. Penggunaan variasi massflowrate yang berbeda menyebabkan perbedaan daerah sentuh radiator dengan udara dingin dan pemerataan temperature drop. Pada penggunaan 5 nosel secara bersamaan akan memberikan nilai rata-rata temperature drop 3,06oC pada radiator.=======================================================High Ambient Temperature is a common problem in the cooling process of cooling tower especially Natural Draft Dry type which uses ambient air as coolant. This problem can be solved by using a spray cooling system mounted on the bottom of the tower so as to create a pre-cooling or cooling process before entering the cooling tower. This is done to get temperature drop on ambient air. This research was conducted using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) with Queenland University (UQ) Natural Draft Dry Cooling Tower as research object. Spray Cooling System uses a nozzle mounted vertically on the foot of the tower at an altitude of H = 1 meter, 2 meters, 3 meters, 4 meters, 4.8 meters. The drop temperature obtained depends on the nozzle massflowrate. The massflowrate used in each of the respective nozzles is 10 g / s; 12.62 g / s; 15.78 g / s; 19.72 g / s; 24.65 g / s. The use of different massflowrate variations leads to differences in radiator touch areas with cold air and equalization of temperature drop. On the use of 5 nozzles simultaneously will provide an average temperature drop rating of 3.06oC on the radiator.
