Abstract

Penelitian tugas akhir ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui proses yang tepat agar lapisan yang terbentuk dari proses electrolytic cadmium plating sesuai standar dan memiliki ketahanan korosi yang baik. Proses electrolytic cadmium plating dilakukan dengan variasi rapat arus sebesar 0,5; 2,5; 8 A/dm2 dan waktu pelapisan yaitu 10; 20; 30 menit. Pengujian korosi dilakukan dengan memasukan spesimen kedalam salt spray chamber selama 336 jam dan perhitungan laju korosi diperoleh dengan metode lose weight. Data yang dihasilkan menunjukkan bahwa semakin besar rapat arus dan waktu pelapisan maka semakin tebal lapisan yang terbentuk dengan penambahan ketebalan secara eksponensial. Nilai ketebalan tertinggi yakni 193,27 µm dengan persamaan eksponesial y = 12,813e0,3527x untuk spesimen dengan dimensi 100x25 mm2 dan 85,39 µm dengan persamaan eksponensial y = 6,3513e0,3349x untuk spesimen dengan dimensi 150x100 mm2 diperoleh saat rapat arus 8 A/dm2 dan waktu pelapisan 30 menit, begitu pula pada nilai ketahanan korosi diperoleh laju korosi terkecil sebesar 0,00009 mpy. Nilai optimal didapatkan pada spesimen dengan rapat arus 2,5 A/dm2 dan waktu pelapisan 20 menit.

The aim of this research is finding out how the optimum conditions for the cadmium layer formed from the electrolytic cadmium plating process in accordance with the standards desired by the manufactur and has a good corrosion resistance. Electrolytic cadmium plating process by varying the current density of 0.5; 2.5; 8 A/dm2 with coating time of 10; 20; 30 minutes. Procedure of corrosion resistance test is putting the sampel in the salt chamber spray for 336 hours and corrosion rate is calculated by weight lose methode. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the bigger the current density and the coating time, the thicker the cadmium layer is formed and it increased exponentially. The highest thickness value is formed at 8 A/dm2 current density with 30 minutes coating time with thickness of 193,27 μm for specimens with dimensions 100x25 mm2 with given function y = 12,813e0,3527x and 85,39 μm for specimens with dimensions 150x100 mm2 with given function y = 6,3513e0,3349x, in addition the lowest corrosion rate value is 0.00009 mpy. The optimal value is obtained on the specimen at a current density of 2.5 A/dm2 with a time of 20 minutes.
