Abstract

HYDROCONTEST is an international fast and efficient boat competition between students in the form of race using boats designed, researched, and produced by the students themselves. Considering the advance and the research atmostphere of the competition and based on the evaluation of Hydrone ITS team’s participation in HYDRCONTEST 2017, a design of fast displacement ship is created for two categories of competition: Lightweight Race (fastest time trial) and Long-Distance Race (farthest distance). The design process in this final project is focused on the performance of the ship especially the resistance and propulsion so the ship would achieve good position in both categories of competition. Resistance analysis with CFD software has been done on several types of bow such as conventional bow, vertical bow, and axe bow. Analysis also has been done to find of the effect of ship’s length of 1.9 m, 2.2 m, and 2.5 on the resistance of the ship. Results show that the model with axe bow has the lowest resistance and model with 2.5 m length has lower resistance than of the 1.9 m and 2.2 m model even though the resistance difference with the 2.2 m model is slight. Using the data of propeller’s open water test, ship’s resistance, and electrical components, propeller’s pitch and RPM has been done so the ship will achieve 5.25 m/s of maximum speed and 24 laps of the track course in one hour for maximum distance.
