Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi di bidang perkapalan saat ini semakin maju, sehingga banyak inovasi yang dikembangkan. Salah satunya adalah inovasi dalam konstruksi struktur kapal yaitu sandwich panel. Sandwich panel merupakan material komposit yang terdiri dari dua jenis material berbeda yang dibentuk menjadi sebuah lapisan. Dengan berkembangnya isu lingkungan saat ini, banyak dilakukan pengembangan dan inovasi pemanfaatan material limbah untuk digunakan kembali sebagai salah satu alternatif bahan baku.
Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengembangan serta uji dinamis untuk mengetahui karakteristik dan redaman yang terjadi pada sandwich panel dengan inti atau core campuran antara unsaturated polyester resin dengan material limbah serbuk cangkang kerang sebagai filler untuk konstruksi kapal. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan perbandingan komposisi 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 35% dan 40% antara serbuk cangkang kerang dengan resin. Identifikasi core dilakukan dengan metode eksperimen yang meliputi pengujian densitas, kekuatan tarik, kekerasan dan kekuatan tekan material untuk mendapatkan nilai persyaratan yang diberikan oleh LR. Investigasi dilakukan juga pada material sandwich panel dengan uji lentur dan uji dinamis yaitu dengan metode uji getaran. Analisa dengan finite element modeling dilakukan untuk validasi uji getaran dan kekuatan material sandwich panel.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, penambahan komposisi serbuk cangkang kerang sebagai filler pada core meningkatkan nilai mechanical properties. Core dengan persentase berat serbuk cangkang kerang 20% dan 30% memiliki nilai mechanical properties tertinggi dan memenuhi syarat minimum dari LR. Hasil dari pengujian dinamis pada sandwich kondisi utuh dan cacat menghasilkan frekuensi pribadi pada sandwich kondisi utuh dengan persentase serbuk 20% sebesar 536.4 Hz dan pada persentase 30% sebesar 545.1 Hz, dan pada kondisi cacat menghasilkan frekuensi pribadi sebesar 365.71 Hz pada persentase 20% dan 371.62 Hz pada persentase 30%. Analisa aplikasi sandwich panel pada konstruksi sisi kapal dalam satu panel menghasilkan perubahan berat konstruksi sebesar -5 % .

Developments in ship technology is now more advanced. There are many innovations have been invented. One of these innovations in ship structure construction is sandwich material. Sandwich material is composite material consisting of two different types of materials formed into a layer. As environmental issues raise nowadays, many innovators are interested in utilizing waste materials as one of alternative raw materials.
In this research, the development and testing was performed on sandwich panel with core made from the mixture of unsaturated polyester resin and clamshells powder as filler for ship construction application. Clamshells are waste material that are abundant in Indonesia. The cores were composed of resin and 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 35%, and 40% clamshell powder by weight. The core identification was done by experiments that included density, tensile strength, hardness, and compressive strength to evaluate whether the core materials met LR standard. Sandwich panel materials were also tested under bending loads. Moreover, to obtain their dynamic properties vibration tests were performed. Finite element analyses were performed on the sandwich panel materials for validation of vibration tests.
Results of this research showed that the addition of clamshells powder as filler on core material could increase their mechanical properties. Cores with 20% and 30% clamshell powder were ranked the first and second highest in mechanical properties values; both met the minimum requirement of LR. The results of the dynamic tests on the sandwich structures in intact and defect conditions showed that in intact condition the natural frequency of the structure with core made of 20% powder was 536.4 Hz and the frequency of the structure with core made of 30% powder was 545.1 Hz. Whereas in the defect condition the natural frequency of the structure with cores made of 20% and 30% powder were 365.71 Hz and 371.62 Hz respectively. Application of the sandwich material on a panel of ship structure showed that it could reduce the structure weight by 5%.
