Abstract
Industri proses kimia adalah ilmu industri yang mengolah bahan baku menjadi suatu hasil atau produk dengan memanfaatkan proses-proses kimia. Kendala yang ada, buku-buku referensi untuk mata kuliah Pengantar Industri Kimia ini minim visual dan dominan dengan rumus, huruf, serta angka dalam beratus-ratus halaman. Terdapat beberapa visual pendukung, namun visual tersebut hanya untuk menggambarkan sedikit dari materi yang dijelaskan di buku serta bersifat lugas. Dibutuhkan sebuah media yang menyenangkan dan dapat memacu motivasi belajar. Media komik edukasi adalah media yang tepat, karena media komik adalah media yang memiliki sifat sederhana, jelas, mudah dipahami, dan lebih bersifat personal sehingga bersifat informatif dan edukatif.
Riset berupa wawancara dengan ahli Industri kimia dan praktisi komik, penyebaran kuesioner kepada target audiens, dan serangkaian riset lain perlu dilakukan demi mengetahui kondisi pasar dan kriteria desain yang sesuai. Studi eksisting buku kompetitor dan komparator juga dibutuhkan agar dapat mengetahui kelebihan serta kekurangan desain buku yang sudah ada. Analisis artefak buku Industri Kimia yang digunakan saat ini perlu dilakukan, agar dapat mengetahui lebih jelas masalah apa saja yang ada.
Hasil riset menyebutkan bahwa Minyak Bumi adalah mata kuliah paling sulit, sehingga topik tersebut dijadikan bahasan dari komik ini. Untuk gaya desain adalah semi realism karena 90% jawaban kuesioner menyebutkan komik Jepang sebagai komik favorit, hal ini juga didukung oleh wawancara dengan praktisi komik. Format dari komik ialah berukuran B5, fullcolour, dan menggunakan softcover. Buku kemudian akan didistribusikan berupa hardcopy dan softcopy. Untuk softcopy, komik akan berwujud e-book yang dapat dibeli melalui internet. Diharapkan dengan dibuatnya komik edukasi Industri Kimia ini, mahasiswa Teknik Kimia serta siswa SMA akan lebih terpacu motivasi belajarnya dan menganggap belajar Industri Kimia adalah aktivitas yang menyenangkan sehingga ilmu yang diserap lebih maksimal.

Chemical Industry is an industry sciences which processes raw materials into a product by utilizing chemical processesThe course would be perfect if only there is no obstacle such as reference books for Chemical Industry courses have minimal visuals yet dominated with formulas, letters, and numbers in hundreds to thousands of pages. There are some supporting visuals, but the visuals are limited to illustrate a little part of the materials described in the book, and it is often rigid or awkward. The students need a fun learning medium which can stimulate learning motivation. Educational comic is the right media; because comic is a medium that has simple nature, clear, easy to understand, and more personal so it is considered informative and educative.
Researches in the form of interviews with Chemical industry expert and comic practitioners, distributing questionnaires to target audience, and a series of other research methods are need to be done in order to understand the market conditions and design criteria accordingly. Artifact analysis of Chemical Industrial Book that are currently used by students in the course is also need to be done in order to identify the existed core problems.
The research results stated that Oil Refinery is the most difficult subject in Chemical Industry, hence it is used as the main subject of this comic. For the art style, semi realism is chosen because 90% of the questionnaire results mention various title of Japanese comics as the target audiences’ favorite comics, it is also supported by comic practitioners that semi realism is the best style for young adult audiences. The comic format is B5 size, full color, softcover with perfect binding. Comic will be distributed in the form of hardcopy book and softcopy. We hope by making this Chemical Industry educational comics, Chemical Engineering freshmen and high school students will be more motivated and will have new perceptions that learning Chemical Industry is a fun activity so that the learning process will become more efficient.
