Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat dewasa ini memungkinan penggunaaan styrofoam dalam berbagai keperluan sesuai dengan karakteristik bahan yang ringan, mudah dibentuk, lentur, dan relatif murah harganya. Banyaknya penggunaan styrofoam akan menimbulkan sampah yang dapat menyebabkan global warming dan merusak lingkungan dikarenakan sifat yang tidak dapat diuraiakan (non-biodegradable). Pembuatan adhesive dari limbah styrofoam meliputi beberapa tahap yaitu pre-treatment, pembuatan adhesive, dan analisa produk. Tahap pretreatment yaitu pembersihan styrofoam dari kotoran. Tahap pembuatan adhesive diawali dengan menimbang styrofoam dan pelarut sesuai dengan rasio berat (5:1; 5:2; 5;3; 5:4; dan 5:5). Kemudian mencampur bahan baku, filler (sebagai pre-bonding), dan aditif IAA (sebagai pengabur aroma pelarut). Lalu, mengaduk campuran hingga menjadi adhesive. Langkah terakhir, melakukan analisa terhadap kualitas adhesive meliputi uji berat jenis, uji pH, uji gelatinisasi, uji viskositas, dan uji keteguhan rekat. Hasil uji berat jenis, uji pH, uji gelatinisasi, uji viskositas, dan uji keteguhan rekat produk yang optimal yakni pada rasio 5:3. Berat jenis tanpa penambahan filler diperoleh 1,196 gr/cm3, dengan penambahan filler diperoleh 1,198 gr/cm3. Uji pH tanpa penambahan filler ataupun menggunakan filler diperoleh pH 8. Gelatinisasi tanpa penambahan filler diperoleh 92 menit, dengan penambahan filler diperoleh 107 menit. Viskositas tanpa penambahan filler diperoleh 149 cps, dengan penambahan filler diperoleh 150 cps. Keteguhan rekat tanpa penambahan filler diperoleh 10 kg/cm2, sedangkan dengan penambahan filler diperoleh 10.12 kg/cm2. BEP yang diperoleh sebesar Rp. 29.288.268,54 pada volume penjualan 8072.88 tube.

The rapid technological development of today allows styrofoam usage in various purposes in accordance with the characteristics of materials that are lightweight, easily shaped, flexible, and relatively cheap price. The amount of use of styrofoam will cause waste that can cause global warming and environmental damage due to its non-biodegradable trait. Manufacture of adhesives from styrofoam waste is carried out covering several stages of pre-treatment, adhesive preparation, and product analysis. Pretreatment stage is cleaning styrofoam from dirt. The stage of making adhesive begins with weighing Styrofoam and solvents according to the weight ratio (5: 1; 5: 2; 5; 3; 5: 4; and 5: 5). Then mix the raw material, filler (as a pre-bonding), and IAA additives (as a solvent aroma blur). Then, mix the mixture until it becomes adhesive. The final step, analyzing the adhesive quality includes viscosity test, pH test, gelatinization test, viscosity test, and stickiness test. The results of the viscosity test, pH test, gelatinization test, viscosity test, and optimum product adherence test are 5: 3. Viscosity without addition of filler obtained 1,196 gr / cm3, with addition of filler obtained 1,198 gr/cm3. The pH test without addition of filler or filler was obtained pH 8. Gelatinization without addition of filler was obtained 92 minutes, with the addition of filler obtained 107 minutes. Viscosity without addition of filler obtained 149 cps, with the addition of
filler obtained 150 cps. Firm adhesiveness without adding filler obtained 10 kg / cm2, while with the addition of filler obtained 10.12 kg / cm2. The BEP earned is Rp. 29,288,268.54 in sales volume of 8072.88 tubes.
