Abstract

Industri pencucian jeans adalah salah satu industri tekstil yang fokus mencuci dan melarutkan celana jeans setelah pewarnaan. Air limbah dari proses pencucian jeans sebagian besar langsung dibuang ke badan air atau sungai, sehingga akan mencemari lingkungan. Perlakuan sederhana diperlukan untuk mengurangi beban polutan pada air limbah cuci jeans yang dapat diterapkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penurunan beban polutan dalam air limbah setelah diolah menggunakan media filter dan membran. Jenis media filter dan membran juga akan ditentukan. Langkah melakukan penelitian ini adalah studi literatur dan desain media filter dan membran. Variabel yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini adalah varian media filter, laju filtrasi, dan jenis membran. Parameter yang diamati adalah COD, TSS, Total Krom, Warna, dan Pb. Secara keseluruhan, pemrosesan pengolahan pada pencucian air limbah jeans dengan menggunakan karbon aktif atau antrasit sebagai media filter dengan membran memberikan hasil yang cukup baik. Untuk penerapan pada industri rumah tangga, filter media antrasit dan membran ultrafiltrasi dengan kecepatan 5 m/jam menunjukkan hasil penurunan nilai COD, TSS, warna, total krom, dan Pb sebesar 99,71%; 97,06%; 95,89%; 20,87%; 15,38% masing-masing.

The jeans washing industry is one of the textile industries that focuses on washing and dissolving jeans after coloring. Waste water from the jeans washing process are mostly directly disposed of in water bodies or rivers, so that it will pollute the environment. A simple treatment is needed to reduce the load of pollutant on jeans washing wastewater which can be applied. The purpose of this study is to determine the decrease in load of pollutant in waste water after it is treated using filter media and membrane.
The type of filter media and membrane will also be determined. The step of doing this study are literature studey and design of the filter media and membrane. The monitored variables in this study are variate of filter media, filtration rate, and type of membrane. The parameters which observed are COD, TSS, Chrome, Colour, and Pb.
Overall, the processing of treatment on jeans washing wastewater by using an activated carbon or anthracite as media filter with a membrane produces quite good results. For home industry application, anthracite filter media and ultrafiltration membrane with a filtration rate of 5 m/hr show that the removal of the COD, TSS, Colour, Total Chrome, and Pb are 99,71%; 97,06%; 95,89%; 20,87%; 15,38%, respectively.
