Abstract

Assault vests are needed by soldiers when on duty in the field of operation, because in these vests all infantry combat needs are stored. To achieve these objectives, Indonesian Army has been trying to meet the needs of soldiers by creating and producing their own domestic assault vest, but the quality and design of these vests is not good enough. Alternatively conducted the Army is buying vest assault from abroad are relatively expensive and the size does not fit with the anthropometry of Indonesian because it refers to the anthropometry human race caucasian so the vest becomes less comfortable and did not fit to the body during use when performing activities in the operating field.
The design of this modular assault vest uses a method of data collection using the Nordic Body Map method to find out which body parts are hurts when using Indonesian Army assault vests, deep interview to find out the personal needs of soldiers, open questionnaires to find out more clearly what the Indonesian Army infantry troops needs with more details, closed questionnaires, and a differential semantic questionnaire to find the Kansei Word what is right to design an assault vest which is then carried out in the data processing stage using the TAFEI method to determine the errors that occur in the use of existing assault vests and Kansei Engineering methods. Furthermore, all data is collected to become an attribute in the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method. After the QFD method is completed, it is known that the order of importance of the aspect of the assault vest must be prioritized.
Furthermore, the modular assault vest that has been designed and made, directly tested on 23 samples of men by the age of 18-29 years with a physiology test methods performed on a treadmill. Results from testing the physiology is oxygen consumption (VO2) when using a military assault vest is higher than the VO2 when using modular assault vest. After that the results of VO2 were tested again with a different test method (t-test) to find out whether there really was a difference between the VO2 results of the Indonesian Army assault vest and the modular assault vest.
