Abstract

================================================================================================
The production trend of biodiesel from vegetable oils continues to increase. However, there are many environmental and food security issues that arise due to massive exploitation to produce crude oil as a raw material for biodiesel. Nowadays, there has been a lot of researchs on the new raw materials for biodiesel production, one of which is bintaro plants. This research aims to know the bintaro seed biodiesel blends characterictics, the performance and NOx emissions of the diesel engines using bintaro seed biodiesel blends. This research was conducted through experimental method using Yanmar TF85MH-di Diesel Engine. From the results of experiment, it showed that bintaro seed biodiesel fuels (B100) have met the standard of SNI 7182:2015 except for kinematic viscosity which is higher than the standard. For bintaro seed biodiesel blends (B20), it has higher cetane number and lower heating value (LHV) than biosolar and high speed diesel. The use of bintaro seed biodiesel blends (B20) has been increase engine performance than biosolar and high speed diesel. NOx emissions from bintaro seed biodiesel fuel on high load is smaller than other fuels and classified in the TIER III standard emissions.
