Abstract

Indonesia and other countries are currently on the need for renewable energyy as the substitute for fossil energy consumption. Nowadays, the consumption of natural-based fuel like biodiesel has been popular to be projected as one of the main alternative fuel in the future. Biodiesel can be produced from both the vegateble oils and animal fats. This research further discuss about the fish oil's potential as one of the biodiesel feedstock. This research was using experimental-based method which include the biodiesel production using esterification-trans esterificationn method and continued by properties check of fish oil biodiesel. The final step was application of fuel on a diesel engine to analyze the engine performance and gas emission of Yanmar TF-85 MH by using three different types of fuels to compare which consist of High Speed Diesel Oil, Bio Solar (Palm Oil Biodiesel) and B20 (Fish Oil). The experiment was conducted by using variation of engine speed and load as well. According to the properties check, the Fish Oil Biodiesel has fulfilled the standard properties set by Indonesian National Standard (SNI-7182:2015). Referring to the experiment result of engine performance and emission, B20 (Fish Oil) resulted better performance in terms of power output, torque and thermal efficiency. On the other hand, the specific fuel oil consumption B20 (Fish Oil) was higher than High Speed Diesel Oil and lower than Bio Solar. Emission gas of diesel engine on maximum speed were also analyzed where NOx and CO emission of biofuels were lower than High Speed Diesel Oil.
