Abstract

Corrosion is a change of material properties especially metals due to reaction with it’s surrounding environment. One way to inhibit corrosion is by adding an inhibitor. Organic inhibitors are inhibitors that are considered environmentally friendly
This study using enceng gondok leaves extract as an organicinhibitor. The material is API 5L Grade B steel in 1MHCl solution as corrosive medium with 100mg – 500mg of the amountof HCl 1M solution extractconcentration used in the test. The type of testing method thatused in this study is EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), PDP (Potentiodynamic Polarization), SEM (Scanning Electrone Microscopy), and Weight Loss.
The test results showed a decrease in corrosion rate in API 5L Grade B steel in 1M HCl solution when enceng gondok leaves extract inhibitor has been added. In potentiodynamic polarization testing, the corrosion rate of a sample without inhibitor addition was 33,549 mm/year. While the test with the addition of the largest amount of inhibitor of 400mg the corrosion rate decreased to 1,09 mm/year with 96,73% efficieny. That was the highest efficiency among all of the concentration variable
