Abstract

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a non-progressive static disorder caused by brain injury in the prenatal, perinatal and postural periods. This disorder affects the inability of the sufferer to control motor function, posture/attitude and movement due to damage to the central nervous system. There is no treatment that can fully treat this disorder. However, there are several methods that can be used to practice the patient's motion functions based on their potential and abilities, one of which is the exercise of the gross motoric function, especially for walking exercises. Walking exercises require a considerable amount of space with supervision from a number of therapists because if they fall, there is fear that injuries will occur in the leg muscles. In addition, the atmosphere of the therapy room greatly affects the psychic of Cerebral Palsy sufferers, so there are not a few cases of patients who switch therapy for the sake of looking for a better therapeutic atmosphere. The purpose of this design is to create a safer walking exercise tool that can be easily monitored and provide a pleasant training atmosphere. The design process begins with data collection through journal comparison methods, observations, and approaches to stakeholders. Through the collection of data obtained problems and needs of patients with Cerebral Palsy in conducting walking exercises which are then processed together with related literature, so that it becomes a product with a design concept of safety and fun. The results of this design are in the form of a walking exercise tool as a Treadmill equipped with a safety belt and utilizing a virtual environment device. This device use as a substitute for the atmosphere of a training room that can be explored by sufferers.
