Abstract

Dalam proses reparasi kapal di atas floating dock, dilakukan proses sand blasting untuk membersihkan lambung kapal dari karat. Karat dan pasir sand blasting tersebut menumpuk menjadi material deposit di atas permukaan pelat pontoon floating dock. Tumpukan karat dan pasir sand blasting tersebut tidak dibersihkan secara menyeluruh sehingga mempengaruhi mekanisme korosi pelat pontoon floating dock yang memicu terjadinya korosi di bawah lapisan karat dan pasir sand blasting atau lebih dikenal sebagai korosi bawah deposit. Untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari karat dan pasir sand blasting terhadap laju korosi pelat pontoon floating dock, maka dilakukan pengujian laju korosi menggunakan metode elektrokimia dengan teknik polarisasi dimana permukaan spesimen tertutupi oleh material deposit karat sand blasting di dalam larutan NaCl 3,5%. Variasi material deposit dalam pengujian ditentukan berdasarkan data hasil observasi lapangan berupa variasi komposisi pasir sand blasting dan karat yaitu 80% : 20%, 70% : 30%, dan 60% : 40%. Variasi ketebalan material deposit yaitu tebal 2 cm, 4 cm, dan 6 cm. Variasi permukaan pelat yang tertutupi material deposit yaitu 100%, 50%, dan 30% bagian permukaan dan pengujian tanpa material deposit karat sand blasting sebagai benchmark. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian diketahui bahwa spesimen dengan permukaan tertutupi material deposit mempunyai laju korosi yang lebih cepat dari pada spesimen yang tidak tertutupi material deposit karat sand blasting dan semakin tebal material deposit karat sand blasting maka laju korosinya semakin cepat. Semakin besar diferensial aerasi antara bagian permukaan yang tertutupi material deposit dan bagian permukaan yang tidak tertutupi material deposit karat sand blasting maka nilai laju korosi semakin besar. Selain itu, semakin banyak kandungan karat didalam material deposit karat sand blasting maka laju korosinya semakin cepat. Korosi yang disebabkan oleh material deposit karat sand blasting mengakibatkan penurunan keuntungan yang diperoleh floating dock dimana keuntungan terendah yang diperoleh adalah sebesar Rp 4.285.627.040,00. Sedangkan keuntungan yang diperoleh pada kondisi permukaan pontoon floating dock tidak tertutupi material deposit adalah sebesar Rp13.439.792.320,00.

Sand blasting is a process to clean ship hull from rust in ship repair on floating dock. Sand
and rust accumulates into a deposit material on the pontoon floating dock. Sand and rust
deposit are not thoroughly cleaned and can affect the corrosion mechanism on the pontoon
floating dock, which can causes local corrosion in the crevice under layer of sand and rust
deposit or commonly known as under deposit corrosion. A corrosion test using
electrochemical method with polarization technic is used to know the effect of rust and sand
deposit on the surface plate from sand blasting process to corrosion rate of plate pontoon
floating dock. The variation of deposit material in the test was determined based on the data
from field observation where the variations is composition of sand and rust, respectively 80%:
20%, 70%: 30%, and 60%: 40%. Variation in thickness of deposit material there is 2 cm, 4
cm and 6 cm. Variations of the plate surface that is covered by the deposit material
respectively 100%, 50% and 30% from plate surface area and a test without sand blasting
deposit material as a benchmark. Based on the test, corrosion rate of the specimen that is
covered by deposit material faster than the specimen that is not covered by deposit material
and the specimen with thicker deposit material is faster corrosion rate. The greater difference
in surface conditions between the surface covered by sand blasting deposit material and the
surface not covered by deposit material is faster corrosion occurs. In addition, specimen
covered by deposit material with more rust content is the faster corrosion rate and the thicker
deposit material is the faster the corrosion rate. Corrosion that is caused by deposit material
rust sand blasting results in a decrease of profit earned from a floating dock where the lowest
profit earned is at Rp 4.285.627.040,00. While profit earned from a pontoon dock that is not
covered by deposit material is as big as Rp13.439.792.320,00.
