Abstract

The mooring ropes of fishing vessels of Synthetic fiber such as plastic or nylon have an impact on environmental pollution because the mooring material of plastic or nylon fishing vessels is difficult to decompose in nature. These problems can be overcome by using alternative materials for fishing vessel’s mooring ropes such as Natural fibers. Therefore, research was carried out with the aim of making mooring fishing vessels made from natural fibers that are environmentally friendly. Research were carried out by analyzing the technical and economic aspects of mooring ropes of fishing vessels made from the skin fibers of Waru (Hibiscus Tiliaceus), Damiho (Anthocephalus Candaba) and Rami (Boehmeria Nivea). Technical analysis with tensile strength test according to ASTM D3822 standard on variations of fishing vessels mooring ropes specimens with 12 mm, 16 mm and 20 mm diameters without being soaked control applications and being soaked handling applications. Based on the calculation of the results, the tensile strength of the specimen fulfil the BKI minimum requirement for ropes tensile strength standard of 26.51 MPa, 24.85 MPa and 22.59 MPa for ropes made from Waru and Rami tree bark. The results of tensile strength test for Damiho fibers does not fulfil the BKI tensile strength standards requirement. The tensile strength of the rope without being soaked applications made from Waru and Rami bark fibers was 28.92 MPa, 26.58 MPa, 23.67 MPa and 35.07 MPa, 27.94 MPa, 23.76 MPa. The mooring ropes of fishing vessels made from Waru bark fiber are more economical and environmentally friendly than Synthetic fiber strings, while the ropes made from Rami bark fibers have more expensive manufacturing costs than Synthetic fiber ropes. The cost of making mooring ropes made from Waru tree bark fiber amounted to Rp1,221,000, Rp1,788,000 and Rp2,940,000, compared to the price of Synthetic fiber ropes of Rp1,500,000, Rp. 2,400,000 and Rp. 4,940,000, thus saving Rp279,000 or 18,60%, IDR 612,000 or 25.50% and Rp. 2,000,000 or 40.49%.
