Abstract
Batik Majapahit telah ada sejak zaman Kerajaan Majapahit, Mojokerto adalah daerah yang pernah menjadi ibukota Majapahit. Pengrajin batik Majapahit dalam skala industri kecil maupun menengah saat ini melakukan pengembangan motif sebagai upaya keikutsertaan mereka dalam pasar komoditas. Perlu adanya suatu upaya solutif untuk terus mengembangkan jenis-jenis motif batik yang baru. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi desain motif baru batik yang diadaptasi dari potensi daerah Mojokerto dan elemen-elemen yang ada dalam Kerajaan Majapahit. Menggunakan metode penelitian desain partisipatif, observasi, dan depth interview untuk mendapatkan data primer serta studi literatur dan studi eksisting untuk mendapatkan data sekunder.
Metode yang diterapkan dalam kegiatan ini melalui pendekatan partisipatif kepada para calon pengguna. Tujuan dari metode desain partisipatif sendiri adalah peningkatan keragaman desain motif batik Majapahit yang mudah dan akan dikembangkan oleh pengrajin. Target audiens dari perancangan ini diutamakan untuk kalangan dewasa muda. Proses desain ini akan menghasilkan eksplorasi motif baru dalam bentuk buku tentang eksplorasi desain motif baru batik Majapahit serta media pendukung perancangan.

Batik Majapahit had reputedly been around since the era of Majapahit Kingdom. Batik Majapahit is a kind of cultural craft which was developed with the triumph of Majapahit Kingdom. The establishment of batik motives has been done by batik craftsmen within small or medium scale industries as an effort of their participation in commodity market. It needs a solution to continue developing new and more innovative batik patterns with the exploration of Majapahit's batik. This research discusses about the exploration of the new batik patterns that were adapted from the potential region of Mojokerto and the existed elements within Majapahit Kingdom. Several methods were used in this research participatory method, observation and deep interview to obtain primary data, and also literature study and existing study in order to obtain secondary data.
One of the methods applied in this research was participatory approach to user candidates. This method itself aimed to improve the variety of batik Majapahit which would be developed by the craftsmen. The main target for this design is young adults. A book about the exploration of new batik Majapahit patterns and the supporting media will be produced through this design.
