Abstract

Kisah Damarwulan merupakan salah satu kisah yang berasal dari Jawa. Kisah ini menceritakan Kerajaan Majapahit dan banyak diadaptasi dalam berbagai kesenian tradisional Jawa salah satunya adalah wayang. Namun eksistensinya sebagai kisah wayang asli Jawa kalah populer dengan kisah wayang dari India yakni Ramayana dan Mahabarata. Padahal kisah Damarwulan mengandung nilai-nilai luhur warisan nenek moyang yang dapat dijadikan pelajaran untuk generasi saat ini. Cerita Damarwulan juga pernah diangkat dalam bentuk buku dan film televisi. Namun minat baca orang Indonesia rendah dan kini presentase kegiatan menonton televisi terus berkurang. Mengangkat kisah Damarwulan melalui media yang lebih relevan dengan era modern diharapkan dapat menjaga eksistensi kisah Damarwulan dan agar lebih diminati.
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah eksperimental serta data sekunder yang didapat melalui studi eksisting, studi literatur dan observasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memperoleh konten dan konsep dalam perancangan motion comic Damarwulan baik dari segi visual maupun cerita. Hasil dari perancangan ini adalah video motion comic kisah Damarwulan. Diharapkan dapat menarik minat masyarakat modern terhadap kisah tersebut serta mampu menyampaikan pesan dari nilai-nilai setiap karakternya yang baik maupun buruk.

The story of Damarwulan is one of the original Javanese stories. This story tells the Majapahit Kingdom and it is widely adapted in various traditional Javanese arts, one of which is wayang, Javanese puppet show. However, the story is less popular than the wayang stories from India such as Ramayana and Mahabarata. While the Damarwulan story contains ancestral heritage values that can be used for the current generation. Damarwulan's story has also been adapted in the form of books and films. However, the reading interest of Indonesians are low and nowadays the percentage of television viewing activities continues to decrease. Bring up the story of Damarwulan through more relevant media for the modern era is expected to be able to maintain its existence and to be more attractive.
The method used in this study are experimental and secondary data obtained through existing studies, literature studies and observations. The purpose of this study was to obtain content and concepts in designing the motion comic of Damarwulan. both in terms of visuals and stories. The result of this design is the comic video of Damarwulan’s story. It is expected to attract the interest of modern society to the story and be able to convey the message of the values of each good and bad character.
