Abstract
Maraknya penggunaan teknologi informasi di berbagai bidang bukan
merupakan hal yang asing lagi, termasuk di bidang pendidikan. Untuk menunjang
berbagai kebutuhan aktivitas komunikasi, banyak institusi pendidikan berlomba
untuk menerapkan teknologi informasi. Sayangnya, booming penerapan teknologi
informasi ini kadang tidak diikuti dengan perencanaan (planning) yang matang.
Memang di satu sisi, penerapan teknologi informasi dapat meningkatkan kualitas
pelayanan pendidikan secara dramatis. Akan tetapi, di sisi lain, pengelolaan yang
buruk dapat menjadi bumerang bagi institusi pendidikan itu sendiri. Di ITS (Institut
Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember), keterbatasan anggaran merupakan salah satu faktor
penentu (driver) strategi pengelolaan infrastruktur jaringan. Akibatnya, kualitas
layanan jaringan seringkali menjadi korban, dengan seringnya jaringan mati (down)
dan lamanya durasi normalisasi. Karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mengevaluasi kondisi availabilitas dan reliabilitas infrastruktur jaringan komputer
ITS, sebelum dianalisis untuk dicari rekomendasi cara meningkatkannya.
Penelitian ini diawali dengan melakukan observasi langsung dan
pengambilan data terkait performa infrastruktur jaringan ITS di Pusat Jaringan.
Data-data yang diambil, yakni data spesifikasi, data downtime, dan data traffic
perangkat jaringan. Dari data-data tersebut dapat diketahui availabilitas, reliabilitas,
dan beban traffic perangkat jaringan. Dengan itu, kemudian dilakukan analisis
terhadap availabilitas, beban traffic, dan reliabilitas perangkat, yakni terkait hasil
pengolahan data dan penyebab utama dibalik hasil tersebut. Selanjutnya, seluruh
analisis dirangkum dalam bentuk rekomendasi untuk meningkatkan availabilitas
dan reliabilitas perangkat jaringan.
Hasil evaluasi kondisi availabilitas menempatkan switch akses BAAK dan
switch distribusi SI sebagai yang terburuk. Sedangkan reliabilitas total sistem
jaringan ITS hanya sebesar 0,592. Dengan tidak adanya standar availabilitas, maka
sulit untuk mengatakan availabilitas yang dimiliki tersebut sudah baik atau buruk.
Begitu pula dengan reliabilitas. Sehingga pada akhirnya, rekomendasi untuk
meningkatkan dua hal tersebut adalah meningkatkan kecepatan normalisasi,
memperhatikan reliabilitas perangkat, menstabilkan pasokan listrik, dan
meminimalkan kerusakan komponen jaringan (server) akibat power outage. ========== The widespread use of information technology in various fields was not a
strange things anymore, including in the educational field. To support the various
needs of communication activities, many educational institutions are racing to
implement this information technology. Unfortunately, this application of
information technology boom was sometimes not followed by thorough planning.
Indeed, on one hand, the application of information technology could improve the
quality of educational services dramatically. However, on the other hand, poor IT
management could backfire the institutions instead. In ITS (Institut Teknologi
Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya), budget constraints was one of the drivers to network
infrastructure management strategy. As a result, the quality of network services are
often became the trade-off, with the frequent network access failures and the long
duration of normalization. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the condition of
the availability and reliability of ITS computer network infrastructure, prior to
analysis to look for any advice on how to improve it.
This study begins with direct observation and data collection related to the
performance of the ITS network infrastructure in the Network Center. The data
were taken, including the data of network devices’ specifications, downtime, and
traffic. From these data it can be seen the network devices availability, reliability,
and traffic load. With it, analysis of the availability, traffic load, and reliability of
the device then can be done, which is related to the data processing and the main
cause behind these results. Furthermore, the entire analysis are summarized in the
form of recommendations to improve the availability and reliability of network
devices.
The results of availability evaluation placing BAAK access switch and SI
distribution switch as the worst. While the total system reliability of ITS network
infrastructure was only 0.592. In the absence of availability standards, it is difficult
to say whether it has been good or bad. So it is with reliability. So in the end, the
list of recommendations to improve these two things are increase the speed of
normalization, pay attention to the reliability of the device, stabilize power supplies,
and minimize damage to network components (servers) due to power outage
