Abstract

Partial discharge is a phenomenon that occurs in high voltage equipment due to the release of electrical charges that occur in an insulating material. In oil insulating materials, partial discharge activity produces heat, arc, and bubbles. Partial discharge activities over time will result in breakdown of insulation materials so that it can damage equipment. In electrical equipment, the partial discharge phenomenon cannot be detected visually. Electromagnetic waves produced by partial discharge can penetrate electrical equipment so that it can be detected by an external device. One example of a device that can detect a partial discharge is an antenna. In this final project, we will discuss the detection of partial discharge in oil isolation using loop antenna. The high voltage AC generation will be connected to the point to plate electrode soaked in insulating oil with variations in the electrode distance of 1cm, 1.5cm, and 2cm. Tests are carried out on a condition that has not been voltageed (normal), pre-breakdown, and 1 second before the breakdown. The antenna loop will be connected to an oscilloscope so that the signal output can be changed into a voltage value. The result of the signal will be processed so that it displays the Phase Resolved Partial discharge (PRPD) and is validated with the signal captured by the HFCT. The results obtained are the further the distance of the electrode, the higher the input voltage. The higher the input voltage causes the greater the value of the load and the number of partial discharge pulses.
