Abstract

Partial discharge is a partial discharge which by definition means the partial or total release of electric charge between two electrodes which should not be connected, resulting in sparks on an insulating material. If left unchecked this can affect the resistance of insulation which causes insulation failure. Isolation is a media that separates between the voltage and non-voltage parts also between two more conductors which have a voltage difference. Insulation it self has a dielectric strength which if there is a decrease in dielectric strength due to a very high potential difference causes a breakdown. In this final assignment, the detection of partial discharge is due to floating contaminants against breakdown voltage in liquid isolation using the UHF method, where PD is detected visually so that in this final project uses a monopole antenna to capture electromagnetic fields when the test object is supplied with high voltage. Where the result of an antenna-detected electromagnetic signal will be validated by HFCT that what is detected is a true partial discharge. In this test using contaminants measuring 5 mm and 10 mm each. And the results of this test during the PD pre-breakdown detected the most amount is when the contaminants are at a distance of 10mm or the center of the electrode gap in each contaminant. And the highest breakdown voltage is 80 kV which indicates that oil insulation is still good and can be used.
