Abstract

Reliability and continuity are important aspects of an electrical system. Improving the electricity supply and interconnected the system are the main supports, but this condition causes stability in the system more complex, so transient stability analysis becomes the main thing. Interference in systems such as three-phase short-circuit can cause the system to become unstable and the generator losing its synchronism, therefore it is important to consider critical clearing time (CCT) . CCT is the maximum time that can be tolerated to keep the system stable. Protection systems that operated after the CCT value can cause other disruptions to the system. To improve the CCT value to the system, Super Capacitor Energy Storage (SCES) is needed. SCES can store and supply large amounts of electricity simultaneously so that it can be a solution to improve CCT values. Determining the optimal capacity of SCES to be installed on the system is important for the price of expensive SCES. In this final project, optimization of the value of supercapacitors will be obtained using a critical path method based on modified losing synchronism. The CCT value will be directly proportional to the addition of SCES, so protection setting is a constrain for the case, than the optimal capacity of SCES can be known.
