Abstract

Siwalan Panji Water Treatment Plants (WTP) is located in Buduran Subdistrict with water sources from the Buduran afvoer which are often polluted waste disposal streams. In the production process, the water produced must meet the drinking water quality requirements to be safe for consumption. Criteria for consumption-safe drinking water are listed in the Minister of Health of the Indonesia Republic Regulation number 492 of 2010 concerning drinking water quality requirements. Some important parameters and must be fulfilled are turbidity with a limit of 5 NTU and pH which ranges from 6.5 to 8.5. Offline quality design for the water production process can be carried out in the coagulation-flocculation process with laboratory studies using a jar test. The quality design with the Taguchi method through the Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) approach can be used to obtain the optimum level combination of each factor. The orthogonal array used is L27(313) with the factors in jar test optimization include coagulant doses, speed of fast stirring, fast stirring time, speed of slow stirring, slow stirring time, and settling time. The results showed that the factors that significantly affected turbidity and pH of the water in the jar test process were slow stirring speeds of 30 rpm when the importance of the response was considered the same or different. The contribution of factors when the importance of both responses was assumed to be the same is 23.37%, while when the importance of both responses was assumed to be different is 27.22%. By using the different importance of both response, the largest GRG estimates are obtained, which is 0.5728.
