Abstract

Marine tourism is one of the leading sectors for development of the Bangsring beach area. Seeing the diversity of existing coral reef ecosystems, this beach is potential to be marine tourism in the form of diving tourism. But keep in mind that coral reefs are very sensitive to change in the surrounding environment, both by natural factors and human activities. Therefore, appropriate management policies need to be implemented in order to maintain the viability of coral reef ecosystems, one of which is by uses remote sensing technology, namely SPOT-6 satellite imagery. The Lyzenga algorithm is used to map shallow water objects with horizontal homogeneity of clarity and sunlight that is capable of penetrating depths of up to 15-20 meters. Thus, the purpose of this study is to find out information on the distribution and types of coral reefs and to know the potential of marine tourism based on a map of coral reefs in Bangsring Underwater, Banyuwangi. The results of the study indicate that the results of the correction of the water column using the Lyzenga algorithm further reinforce the boundaries of the types of water substrate. Based on SPOT-6 image classification, the estimated area of living coral is 100 Ha.While the results of measurements in the study site using the Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method shows living coral cover is around 50.42% and is dominated by Non Acropora and Acropora. Overall, both the interpretation and field measurements shows that Bangsring Underwater covers an area with a moderately suitable category (S2) for diving tourism. The tourism suitability index based on field measurements around 53.71%. These results suggest that there are several spots around Bangsring Underwater that are suitable for diving site and can be promoted as marine tourism destination.
