Abstract

Textile industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Indonesia. Since the industry produces dye containing wastewater, it will cause dangerous impact for the surrounding environment without proper treatment. Methylene blue (MB) synthetic dye is one of hazardous components which has been discovered in wastewater. In this study, the effect of addition of Bacillus subtilis into Gloeophyllum trabeum culture for decolorizing MB was investigated. B. subtilis was added into G. trabeum culture at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mL (1 mL = 9.47 x 108 CFU) in Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB) medium for 7 days incubation at 30°C. The result showed that the addition of B. subtilis into G. trabeum culture could increase MB decolorization. The highest decolorization was obtained by adding 10 mL of B. subtilis about 81.8068%. These results indicated that B. subtilis could enhanced biodecolorization of MB by G. trabeum.
