Abstract

Pompa merupakan salah satu jenis mesin konversi energi yang berfungsi untuk memindahkan zat cair dari suatu tempat ke tempat yang diinginkan. Pada pompa multistage, terdapat poros yang dipasangi impeler dimana umur pakai poros pompa setrifugal multistage horizontal di PG.Gending seharusnya adalah 4 tahun, tetapi ditemui kegagalan pada poros pompa buatan lokal ketika baru beroperasi selama 4 bulan. Material poros pompa multistage yang gagal tersebut tidak memenuhi standar yang ditentukan yaitu ASSAB 705. Maka optimalisasi sifat mekanik material tersebut perlu dilakukan yaitu menggunakan perlakuan panas pada material yang memiliki komposisi setara dengan ASSAB 705 yaitu baja AISI 4340. Proses perlakuan panas yang dilakukan meliputi proses hardening dengan temperatur 830oC dan holding time 30 menit. Setelah melakukan proses hardening, spesimen diberi perlakuan panas tempering dengan variabel holding time dan temperatur tempering berdasarkan perhitungan Kang dan Lee equation, yaitu 60 menit dan 120 menit dengan masing-masing terdapat tiga variabel temperatur, yaitu 535oC, 575oC dan 615oC. Pengujian kekerasan dan keausan dilakukan dan didapatkan hasil spesimen dengan kekerasan dan ketahanan aus tertinggi adalah yang diberikan tempering dengan temperatur 535oC dengan holding time 60 menit. Sedangkan yang paling rendah adalah yang diberikan tempering dengan temperatur 615oC dengan holding time 120 menit. Dimana semakin lama waktu tahan dan semakin tinggi temperatur, nilai kekerasan dan nilai tahan aus material semakin menurun.

Pump is one type of energy conversion machine that serves to move liquid from one place to the desired place. In a multistage pump, there is an impeller fitted shaft where the life span of a multistage centrifugal pump shaft is in PG. Gending should be 4 years, but a failure at a locally made pump shaft is encountered when it has only been operating for 4 months. The failed multistage pump shaft material does not meet the specified standard, namely ASSAB 705. So optimization of the mechanical properties of the material needs to be done that is using heat treatment on materials that have a composition equivalent to ASSAB 705, namely AISI 4340 steel. The heat treatment process includes hardening with a temperature of 830oC and a holding time of 30 minutes. After performing the hardening process, the specimens were given heat treatment tempering with holding time and tempering temperature based on Kang and Lee equation calculations, which were 60 minutes and 120 minutes with each of the three temperature variables, namely 535oC, 575oC and 615oC. Testing for hardness and wear is carried out and the results of the specimens with the highest hardness and wear resistance were obtained which were given tempering with a temperature of 535oC with a holding time of 60 minutes. While the lowest is given tempering with a temperature of 615oC with a holdinging time of 120 minutes. Where the longer the holding time and the higher the temperature, the value of hardness and the value of wear-resistant material decreases.
