Abstract

> Numerous historical remains have been discovered in Terung Wetan Village, including two ancient wells, a temple, and the tomb of a princess believed to be the daughter of Raden Husein, the Duke of Terung. Excavations at one of the ancient well sites, the Joko Dhahar Site, revealed Majapahit-era artifacts at a depth of approximately 0.2 m below the ground surface. This study employed the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) method to identify the subsurface extent and structural characteristics of the site. Data acquisition was conducted along 28 survey lines arranged in a grid pattern, consisting of 17 north–south lines spaced 1 m apart and 11 west–east lines spaced 2 m apart. The recorded data were processed through several signal-processing steps, including Adjust Signal Position, DEWOW, and Inverse Amplitude Decay, followed by noise reduction using Mean Filter, Remove Background, Suppress Dipping Features, and KL Filter. Stolt Migration (FK Migration) was subsequently applied to reconstruct wave propagation and generate the Exploding Reflector Model (ERM), after which three-dimensional (3D) modeling was performed to visualize the subsurface structure of the archaeological site. The 3D model identified the upper and lower boundaries of the anomaly consistently at depths of approximately 0.2–0.4 m and 0.6–0.8 m, respectively. Horizon picking and slicing analyses, including two-way travel time (TWT), depth slicing, and amplitude slicing, further indicated that the archaeological remains are characterized by low TWT values and high reflection amplitudes at depths of approximately 0.225–0.28 m for the upper boundary and 0.6–0.7 m for the lower boundary. The estimated extent of the archaeological site is approximately 75.6 m², with an average thickness ranging from 0.4 to 0.5 m.
